In 1999, an animated Batman series was aired in the WB Television Network. This is a futuristic Batman adventure where Bruce Wayne has finally retired due to old age. The series was called Batman Beyond. The first episode takes place in 2019 where it showed the series of events that led to Bruce Wayne’s retirement. The “present” times of the series takes place in 2039 where a teenage boy crosses paths with the old Bruce Wayne. His name is Terry McGinnis.
Terry takes on the persona of Batman to continue bringing justice back in Gotham city. The police commissioner is now Barbara Gordon who once played the role of Batgirl. This animated series received commendations and criticisms everywhere. Many followed the story for the three years that it was aired. During those times, a number of action figures were designed and produced for fans and aficionados everywhere. You will find the young Terry McGinnis in his regular persona and as the futuristic Batman. You will also find an action figure of the aged Bruce Wayne with his trusty Great Dane, Ace. Among other action figures would include Barbara Gordon, Max Gibson (Terry’s personal “Alfred”) and the villains in the form of Derek Powers, the Jokerz, Inque and Shriek.
