Hathi is the leader of the Indian elephant troop, and he is a very pompous and arrogant elephant. He likes to boast that elephants can never forget but he actually forgets a whole lot of things. Hathi takes pride in his past as a brave war elephant. He loves to tell everybody about his glorious past when he was able to serve in the war, even though other elephants end up getting annoyed at his boastful attitude. He takes the jungle law very seriously because of his experiences during the war. He is called Colonel Hathi. His wife is Winifred Hathi and his son is called Hathi Junior. In the movie, he provides some comic relief through a funny marching song that the elephants sing whenever they march together. Later in the movie, he helps Bagheera find Mowgli after much hesitation and was only convinced by his son Hathi Junior.
