Set on the Red Planet, the Lego Mars Mission story started when a group of astronauts discovered a new abundant power source on the planet Mars, the red crystals. The trouble began when the crystals started to disappear, due to thieving aliens that want to claim the crystals for themselves; thus starting the battle for the Red Planet. This series of toys are still expanding until the present; with the storyline now including the native inhabitants of the planet Mars, called the Hive.
In each set Of Lego Mars Mission are intricately designed vehicles from one or both factions. From excavators, crystal harvesters, and drills to battle ships, fighter jets, and battle robots. Just the vast number of things you can build is enough to make your very own intergalactic battleground.
Although making themes based on war goes against company policy, the Mars Mission line of toys did become one of the most popular toy line of the company. Because the wars in this line of toys is based on science fiction and not in reality maybe the reason why the company decided on continuing with its production.
