Robotech Action Figures

The Robotech series is a war story in galactic proportions. Where else can a planet be under siege for some dozen years, attacked by three different races, although not simultaneously? The series is more than just a story about militaristic maneuvers and large-scale conflicts, though. With the theme of love and human connection, it managed to integrate individualistic views on warfare with political and socio-cultural views.

One of the most notable recurrent themes is enemies falling in-love with warships, space fighters, explosions and mecha attacks as the backdrop, with a looming picture of large-scale destruction of civilization. With the first Macross-based series, top pilot Rick hunter falls in love with the Bridge commander and a famous singer known for her motivating skills in the battlefield. Air combat specialists from opposing sides, Millia and Max also (yes you guessed it) fell in love.

In the second series where there is conflict between the Robotech Masters and the human race, Musica, the Masters’ muse who was supposed to keep the bioroid forces in a good mood ended up falling in love with Bowie Grant, a member of the human’s expeditionary forces who has a penchant for piano music.

In the third series where Humans and Invids are in a very shaky truce, Lancer, a seasoned veteran posed as a female singer and ended up falling in love with an Invid princess. In this series, there is no absolutely-evil-race scenario as there are Invids who are sympathetic to the human plight.

More than a decade after it was first aired in 1985; the Robotech series still retained considerable popularity.
