Sonic the Hedgehog is a videogame character known by all gamers. A blue hedgehog who can run faster than the speed of sound, Sonic the hedgehog is the official mascot for Sega and one of the well loved video game characters of all time whose games have sold over 50 million copies worldwide. Though Sonic the hedgehog could surely run fast, he wasn’t given the ability to swim because hedgehogs can’t swim. A notable ability that Sonic the hedgehog does is to curl himself into a ball and spin fast in order for him to attack his opponents.
Besides being popular in videogames, Sonic the Hedgehog also starred in an animated series “The Adventure of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Underground, and Sonic X” which is an anime. There is also one OVA series for Sonic entitled Sonic the Hedgehog anime OVA. The Sonic Underground series introduced Sonic’s two siblings, Sonia and Manic, and his mother, Queen Aleena.
Sonic the Hedgehog was originally created by Naoto Oshima. His original name was supposed to be Mr. Needlemouse and his original color was teal. Further changes are being gradually done to Sonic the Hedgehog’s appearance like his shoes which were inspired from Michael Jackson’s shoes. Sonic the Hedgehog was not the original mascot for Sega, but he was just a replacement from the former mascot which was called Alex Kidd.
