The Riddler is the 59th greatest comic book villain of all time. He became popular in the Batman comics produced by DC for the mind games that he uses for his life of crime. Before he became the Riddler, he was once known as Edward Nigma (Nygma or Nashton in some entries). The name fits perfectly especially when addressed as E. Nigma. Enigma is another word for mystery – hence, the name Riddler.
His signature colors have always been green with a bit of purple trim. During the days that he was illustrated in the DC comic series for Batman, he wore a green suit with a green top hat. His shirt was purple and his tie was white. He also wore a black eye mask to cover his true identity. From the earlier times to the present, he was known for his signature staff that was shaped in to a giant question mark on the top. These were the same basis for creating his action figures that Batman fans have been collecting over the generations. The latest depiction of him was based from how Jim Carrey portrayed him in the 1996 movie Batman Forever where instead of wearing a coat and tie, he was wearing a full bodysuit with question marks printed all over.
